5 sea caves on the Costa Brava
1- Cova de s’Infern
It is located at Cap de Creus and there’s no doubt about it: it promises an experience that leaves a mark. We could say it is a rock that has gradually been deformed until it created a cave with a natural pool inside. When the sun reflects off the water, a reddish colour appears that helped give it its name.
2- Cova d’en Gispert
Located between the coves of Aiguablava and Aiguaxelida, it is the longest cave on the Costa Brava. It has two clearly distinct parts: the Gallery and the Final Chamber. None other than Salvador Dalí organised a private singing concert after being impressed by the cave’s acoustics. It is now a unique place to watch the first rays of morning sunlight from inside.
3- Cova de la Sal
We find it between Cala Montgó and Punta del Milà. It has a small cove that is ideal for snorkelling, although this depends on the sea level and the time of year. It’s a place that not many people know about, so it will give you the feeling of almost discovering it yourself.
4- La Foradada
La Foradada is on the coast of the Montgrí Natural Park, beneath Cap Castell. Small vessels can pass through this rock, so it’s a recurring excursion for the boats that frequent the area.
5- La Banyera de la Russa
Its name comes from the owner of the site, Mrs Woevodsky, who used to bathe naked, although she wasn’t actually Russian but British. It is a small inlet of reddish rock, sheltered by the cliffs beneath the castle of Cap Roig, located between Mont-ras and Calella de Palafrugell.
